If you came into tonight hoping for an easy win, against a Toronto team with a clearly inferior defense and key players missing... If you came into tonight hoping that Metro can clinch the East... If you came into tonight hoping that the Supporters Shield is not far behind... Boy, were you in for disappointment. Metro laid a smelly pile of feces at BMO Field, losing to Toronto, 2:1.

Jesse Marsch made two changes from last week, inserting Kemar Lawrence for Connor Lade and Gonzalo Veron for Lloyd Sam. The two teams sleepwalked through a chippy, boring first half. The most interesting event of the period was ex-Metro Jozy Altidore receiving a straight red for swearing. Altidore was not playing, sitting on Toronto's reserve bench.

Toronto picked it up in the second, and were helped to the lead by Ronald Zubar in the 51st minute. A poor cross by the Canadians should have been an easy clear for the Metro defender at the top of the penalty area. Somehow, he whiffed on the ball, missing it completely. Herculez Gomez ran onto it and had an easy conversion.

The hosts doubled the lead in the 78th, after Sebastian Giovinco fought off Sal Zizzo, and split numerous Metro defenders (including the sleepwalking Zubar) in slotting one home. All looked doomed until the 86th, when Shaun Wright-Phillips' blast found its way through the penalty area and into the net, and suddenly Metro had hope.

Unfortunately, tonight was not a night for hope. Much like the majority of the match, Metro couldn't piece anything else together, and Toronto ran off deserved winners. The East will likely be taken, the Shield is still a possibility, but... this did not look good.

Lineup: Robles, Lawrence, Perrinelle, Zubar, Zizzo, McCarty, Martins, Kljestan, Grella, Veron, Wright-Phillips. Subs: Sam, Wright-Phillips, Davis.
