15 years of MetroFanatic
February 4, 2016
15 years ago, Metro was coming off the best season in its history, looking for its first title, and our website debuted. Today... a decade and a half have passed!
Oh, and what joy those 15 years saw! Magnificent triumphs in La Manga and Emirates Cup, spectacular players like Peter Canero and Juan Pietravallo, sublime coaches like Mo Johnston and Juan Carlos Osorio, brilliant executives like Nick Sakiewicz and Alexi Lalas!
Wait, no. But we did see two Supporters Shields, the first one breaking the 18-year-long trophy-less drought, won by none other than Metro all-time hero Mike Petke. We saw Amado Guevara, Youri Djorkaeff, Juan Pablo Angel, and the one and only Thierry Henry. We saw Tim Howard, Jozy Altidore, Tim Ream, and Matt Miazga all grow up to be sold for millions. We saw a still-abhorrent re-branding. We saw the opening of the best stadium in America. We still haven't seen Metro win MLS Cup.
As always, on this day, we open the doors to the MetroFanatic Hall of Fame, and this year's entrant is Jeff Parke. Yes, he is not technically retired, but he has been away for a game for a year, and seems highly unlikely to ever play again because of his injuries. Congrats, Jeff!
So, where will we be in another 15 years?
Hopefully, not looking for that first MLS Cup...
