New York Red Bulls II returned to their winning ways with a victory at Highmark Stadium against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, 3-1. Anatole Abang opened the scoring while Stefano Bonomo and Derrick Etienne Jr. added second half goals.
Pittsburgh took the early lead on a goal from Romeo Parkes in the 10th minute. The forward applied pressure and forced a turnover, allowing him to charge towards goal alone and slide his shot just beyond the reach of Kyle Reynish.
New York answered just two minutes later, thanks to service from Justin Bilyeu. The defender pushed up field and delivered a cross, which was deflected by a Riverhounds defender. Abang won the foot race to the near post and flicked his header over goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap to level the match.
In the second half, New York took their first lead of the game in the 72nd minute. Speedy Williams fed the ball to Bilyeu, who delivered a low-driven cross into the box. Bonomo was able to get on the end of it and tap in from close range for NYRB II's second of the game.
New York doubled their lead in the 82nd minute when Junior Flemmings swung in a cross to Etienne Jr. who slammed his shot into the goal on the volley to seal the match.
Two red cards were issued in the 85th minute to Karl Ouimette and Parkes. Following the ejections, Parkes kicked Ouimette from behind. The defender was stretchered off the field.
