The New York Red Bulls defeated Liga MX side Club America, 2:0 in an international friendly on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena. Shaun Wright-Phillips and Dan Metzger both scored for New York, while Kyle Reynish kept the clean sheet.
The Red Bulls used a mix of first team players and call ups from the USL team on the night. Wright-Phillips got things started in just the third minute, connecting on a bicycle kick from close range to finish off a Sean Davis corner that was headed on by Damien Perrinelle and Gideon Baah.
The Red Bulls' first team players went the rest of the first half before a largely USL contingent took over the second half. Play resumed in similar fashion, with Red Bulls Academy product Metzger stepping into a lay off from Brandon Allen and curling in a shot from the top of the box in the 53rd minute.
Reynish made six saves to preserve the shutout, including several diving saves in the late stages.
