Austrian Daniel Royer to be signed?
July 28, 2016
Could Lloyd Sam's replacement be around the corner? According to Danish website Herning Folkeblad, Metro is in line to sign winger Daniel Royer. The Austrian international is currently on the books of Midtjylland. The website claims that Royer is undergoing a physical with RBNY and "the deal is expected to become a reality as early as this week". The transfer fee is reported to be 1.5 million kroner, or about $225,000.
Royer, 26, started his career in 2008 with Strum Graz in his native Austria, and also played for Pasching, Ried, Austria Vienna, and Hannover and Koln in Germany. He's been capped six times for his country, all coming in 2011.
Interestingly, Midtjylland is a pioneer in analytics approach, winning the 2015 Danish title on the back of the strategy of signing undervalued players. Like Metro, they emphasize set piece efficiency.
Jesse Marsch told BigAppleSoccer, "He's a player that we've talked to, he's one of the players that is on our radar. We're all hopeful that something will be figured out but nothing, nothing is finalized yet."
