RBNY II's fantastic season looked to be over. Down in overtime with minutes to go, against the team they just couldn't beat...
Penalties. Then came the penalties, first to end regulation and then the perfect shootout. At the end, RBNY II topped Rochester, earning the trip to the USL semifinals. It's not over yet!
Metro Juniors opened the scoring in the 20th minute, after Derrick Etienne rounded a foolish defender and slit it in. Two minutes later, Rochester answered through Steevan Dos Santos.
A minute before the break, Brandon Allen slammed home the rebound to give RBNY II the lead once more. Ten minutes into the second half, Dos Santos again evened it out. Aaron Long had a sure goal saved off the line, Stefano Bonomo had a point-blank shot saved in injury time, and the two teams ended regulation tied at 2:2.
Someone named Wal Fall headed in a corner kick in the 110th. Ryan Meara got his hands on the ball, but could not keep it out. Then, with just a minute left in overtime, Dan Metzger was taken down in the box, and Allen calmly converted from the spot to even it at 3:3.
To penalties they went, with Long, Etienne, and Allen matching Rochester's openers. Dos Santos shot high on his fourth attempt, and Metzger did not miss. After Rochester converted, it was up to Konrad Plewa to send RBNY II through. He did just that.
To the semis, Metro Juniors!
