Another wasted year
November 6, 2016
Here is what we don't understand: we know what makes this team good. It's consistent pressure, quick passes, and fast decisions in the attacking third. Why get away from it?
Yes, the team was down one after the away leg. But why change what you know what works? You need to win by two, sure. But this team, especially at home, is fully capable of that, if it plays to its strength.
Tonight, it didn't. Afraid of the away goal, Metro played an excellent defensive first half... and an awful attacking one, and then surrendered the away goal early in the second anyway.
That was 51 minutes in. Now, caution had to be thrown out of the window. The problem? Metro now needed three, and only had 40 minutes to do so. They got one, before Montreal put it away, 3:1 on aggregate. Goodbye, Metro, for the 21st season.
Yes, if Sacha Kljestan scores on that penalty, perhaps the game goes differently. But when the team creates no other opportunities in the first 45, is a missed penalty to blame for such a period of ineptitude?
What really annoys us is that there was no progress this year. For all the talk, for all the promises, we're not in a better place now than we were a year ago.
Another wasted year...
