Chris Duvall taken by Minnesota, sent to Montreal
December 13, 2016 (Official Press Release)
Defender Chris Duvall was selected by Minnesota United FC second overall in Tuesday afternoon's MLS Expansion Draft. Duvall spent three seasons with the Red Bulls.
Duvall was drafted by New York in the second round (22nd overall) of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, and signed to an MLS contract on March 7, 2014. Duvall played at least 15 games in each of his three seasons, totaling 59 regular season appearances, with one goal and four assists.
"We'd like to thank Chris for his contributions to the club over the last three seasons," said solemn Red Bulls Sporting Director Ali Curtis. "With the depth of our team, we knew that we would lose a player. Chris is a promising player, and we wish him well as he starts the next phase of his career in Minnesota."
Minnesota immediately traded Duvall and general allocation money to the Montreal Impact for midfielder Johan Venegas.
