The chase for 1000 goals, again

Do you remember when Mike Grella scored the 1000th goal in Metro history? It happened two years ago, on a fantastic chip against Columbus. Well, we're approaching a new milestone... 1000 goals! In league play, that is (Grella's strike counted goals in all competitions), Metro now stands at 998. With the threshold is in sight, let's revisit the previous milestones!
#100: May 16, 1998; Eduardo Hurtado; MetroStars 4, DC United 3
Metro jumped out on a 4:0 lead over the hated Scum, before holding on for dear life. "I think we ran out of gas, but we had just enough to hold on to win," said Giovanni Savarese, who scored twice. Hurtado's goal was the third of the contest. Interestingly, he also scored the 100th goal in all competitions.
#200: June 24, 2000: Steve Jolley; Colorado 1, MetroStars 3
The goal came during Metro's nine-game unbeaten streak that moved them to the top of the East. It happened in front of a paltry 4,000 in Colorado. Jolley opened the scoring after he one-timed a Mark Chung cross.
#300: July 6, 2002: Steve Jolley; Columbus 2, MetroStars 3
... and then Jolley did not score until two years later, this time in Columbus. It was a game-winner midway through the second half; the defender knocked home a Brad Davis free kick.
#400: September 25, 2004: John Wolyniec; Dallas 0, MetroStars 2
Metro beat Dallas on the road to clinch a playoff spot. Wolyniec had the first, fighting off... Jolley, now on the Burn. The second came from Cornell Glen, who ran through... Jolley.
#500: April 15, 2007; Clint Mathis; New York 3, Dallas 0
The 2007 home opener saw Clint Mathis return to Metro. He needed six to break Savarese's all-time scoring record; this was his first of the six he would score. After Mathis set up Jozy Altidore for the opener, the youngster returned the favor. The game was played in cold, soaking rain that caused goalie Ronald Waterreus to leave at halftime due to hypothermia.
#600: June 13, 2009; Albert Celades; Toronto 2, New York 1
Celades' only Metro goal was the first road goal of the 2009 season... scored in the NINTH road game. Let's not talk about it.
#700: October 4, 2011; Luke Rodgers; New York 2, Los Angeles 0
This game was rescheduled because of Hurricane Irene. Rodgers, who earlier that year tried to teach LA's Landon Donovan to shut up, shone. Needing to win for a playoff push, the Englishman knocked home a rebound off a corner kick.
#800: September 8, 2013; Eric Alexander; Houston 1, New York 4
Alexander opened the scoring with an early chip over the goalkeeper. This game also maked an end to a two-month scoring drought for Titi Henry and the debut of Matt Miazga. It was second of the eight-game unbeaten streak to end the regular season and win the all-important Supporters Shield.
#900: July 18, 2015; Sacha Kljestan; Orlando 0, New York 2
Metro's first ever game and goal at Orlando. Kljestan's shot from outside the box burned a hole in the Orlando net... Interestingly, the goalkeeper on both #800 and #900 was Tally Hall.
