In a choppy, ugly game played on the terrible surface of Foxboro, Metro took the early lead, but succumbed to the Revs 2:1. The loss ended a five-game unbeaten run.
With Tyler Adams, Tim Parker, and Michael Murillo absent due to international commitments (why were the first two called up for friendlies?), Vincent Bezecourt, Aurelien Collin, and Connor Lade were inserted in place. Also, Derrick Etienne got the start for Daniel Royer.
Eight minutes in, Metro had the lead. After the Revs failed to clear away a set piece, a Sean Davis pass found (who else!) Bradley Wright-Phillips. The Englishman's snappy header burned a hole in the Rev net.
Unfortunately, Metro couldn't assert its early dominance. On the last kick of the half, Diego Fagundez pounced on a bouncy ball at the top of the box, and slotted it past Ryan Meara.
An ugly second half with no controlled possession from either team followed. In the 78th, Teal Bunbury got past Collin on a goalmouth cross, and that was that.
No, seriously, why were Adams and Parker called up for friendlies?
Lineup: Meara, Lawrence, Long, Collin, Lade, Davis, Bezecourt, Valot, Romero Gamarra, Etienne, Wright-Phillips. Subs: Royer, Rzatkowski, Muyl.
