Metro dropped out of Open Cup by Worms, 2:1

If you look at the successful US Open Cup run from last year, one things becomes quickly evident: the first-choice lineup started every game, other than the decision to handing goalkeeping duties to Ryan Meara. This year? Not so much.
It wasn't felt in a resounding 4:0 win over the blue poseurs, but the decision to leave some starters on the bench cost Metro dearly, as they lost to Philly 2:1. The absences of Bradley Wright-Phillips and Daniel Royer were felt the most, as Carlos Rivas and Derrick Etienne had between themselves an atrocious night of finishing.
After a scoreless first half, the Worms got on the board in the 52nd, as a long shot from Haris Medunjanin fooled Luis Robles (Meara, who was due to start this match, was held out due to injury). Soon after, Etienne was pushed in the box, with no foul called, Jesse Marsch decided to sub in BWP and Royer... and the Worms made it 2:0 through Cory Burke.
By then, it became too little, too late, even after Alejandro Romero Gamarra found BWP in the 77th. Metro ends the 2018 edition of the Open Cup just like it ended all the previous ones: without a trophy. So much for successful runs.
