Metro history is riddled with Open Cup disasters, and while we probably shouldn't compare this exit to the one at the hands of the Staten Island Vipers or Crystal Palace Baltimore, the manner in which it happened adds it to the list. Up a goal, penalty kick, up a man, then losing late in extra time... This one stings.

Chris Armas elected to keep his best attacking options on the bench. The defense was a mixed bag as well, with RBNY II player Rece Buckmaster making his first-team debut. And less than a minute in, Metro reject Juan Agudelo put the Revolution ahead.

Metro regrouped, and Tom Barlow evened it in the 19th, running onto a through ball, fighting off a defender, and firing it home. Then, in the 54th, a looping Cristian Casseres strike from outside the box gave Metro the lead.

They were the better team at that point, and, when Alex Muyl stepped up to take a penalty in the 65th, the game looked close to being locked. Alas, the shot was saved, and Metro couldn't hold on: Teal Bunbury evened it in the 85th minute.

Metro got a break when Luis Caicedo was ejected in second half injury time, but wasted the man advantage. Bunbury again, in the 109th, scored the final goal of the match.

No, it's not losing to Harrisburg City Islanders, but it was absolute garbage.
