There are moments this year when you think, maybe it's not so bad. Maybe this team can turn it around. Those moments don't last long. Such was the case tonight, when Metro clawed back from a two-goal deficit to tie Seattle on the road, only to be done in by an own goal to exit 4:2 losers. It's the team's third straight loss, as the spiral into oblivion continues.
Kemar Lawrence was suspended with yellow card accumulation, so Rece Buckmaster switched to the left an Michael Murillo entered on the right. Tim Parker was benched for Amro Tarek. In the midfield, Josh Sims made way for Cristian Casseres, but the reversal occurred late in the first, when the Venezuelan pull up hurt.
By then, three goals were already on the scoreboard. Seattle got one just two minutes in, when Jordan Morris redirected a corner kick to the short side. The ball looked to have come off his arm, but the referee didn't agree. Then, in the 23rd, Morris headed a cross back to the center of the box, where Nicolas Lodeiro plucked it out of the air for an emphatic finish. Metro's response came four minutes later, when Aaron Long headed in a Murillo cross.
The second half started with an awful back pass from Parker, who came in for Tarek at the half. Thankfully, the ensuing Seattle shot just went wide of the net. Metro did pick the pace, and was rewarded for it in the 67th, when Daniel Royer found Alejandro Romero Gamarra in the box. Kaku ripped a shot into the net to tie the game.
For a while, it looked like Metro's resilience would pay off with at least a point, but disaster struck in the 83rd. Sean Davis tried to defend a cross, took it out of mid-air, and knocked it into his own net. All the effort that went into the comeback went for naught. Lodeiro finished off the scoring with a goal in injury time to hang another four-spot on the terrible Metro defense.
Speaking of fours, there are four games left in the regular season... and if the team loses at Portland in midweek, it will be four losses in a row, for the first time since 2016.
So much for those moments.
