Ten Best: Metro vs Philly

Is this now a rivalry? Yes? No? Does it matter? Whatever it maybe, this seems like a good time to review Metro's ten best wins over the Philly Worms:
10) June 18, 2017: Philadelphia 0, New York 2
The game was tied in the 87th minute, when Bradley Wright-Phillips scored on a Kemar Lawrence cross. He added another in injury time.
9) May 13, 2012: Philadelphia 2, New York 3
Joel Lindpere opened the scoring, fake wunderking Freddy Adu got a red card, but it was Metro who found themselves down 2:1 early in the second half. Vice captain S. Markus Holgersson answered with his first Metro goal, and Kenny Cooper capitalized on a mistake by Worm keeper Zac MacMath for the win.
8) October 21, 2018: Philadelphia 0, New York 1
Just a one-goal win, and the goal coming on a penalty kick by Alejandro Romero Gamarra. But without that win, coming in the season's penultimate game, Metro does not have a chance for its third Shield, which they would earn the following week.
7) March 30, 2013: New York 2, Philadelphia 1
It was just a one-goal win, but what an important one. After Metro started the 2013 season winless in its first four, it finally got three points. Dax McCarty scored, but Philly soon answered. In the 81st, Peguy Luyindula served Titi Henry, who switched feet and volleyed over helpless MacMath. It was Mike Petke's first win as head coach... the first win of the first Shield.
6) October 20, 2011: New York 1, Philadelphia 0
In the last game of the season, Metro needed a win to clinch a playoff berth, and they were playing without suspended Henry. They got it on an early goal by Dane Richards, and held off the toothless Worms the rest of the way.
5) October 27, 2012: Philadelphia 0, New York 3
Another last game of the season, with Metro needing to win to avoid the wild card game, ended in a rout. Cooper started with a penalty, Titi stole the ball and doubled the lead, and Cooper took a McCarty pass to finish the rout.
4) August 1, 2015: Philadelphia 1, New York 3
Sacha Kljestan opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Philly evened it. Then... Wright-Phillips to Wright-Phillips! Brother Shaun, on his debut, fed Brother Bradley. It was the first and only time the two would be on the scoresheet together during their Metro career. Anatole Abang got the third.
3) October 1, 2016: New York 3, Philadelphia 2
Philly took the early lead, but Kljestan evened it from a quick corner right before the break. BWP scored again, but Philly answered. In the 66th, a Kljestan free kick found McCarty's head for the win.
2) June 28, 2017: New York 1, Philadelphia 1 (5:3 PKs)
Metro had many escapes in their run to the Open Cup final, and this was the closest. Kljestan scored, but Philly evened it late with a goal that looked clearly offside. It came to penalties, where Metro scored on all their kicks, and Ryan Meara saved Fafa Picault's shot to move Metro to the quarterfinals.
1) October 18, 2015: New York 4, Philadelphia 1
Before the fans could get into their seat, Metro had a goal. Mike Grella scored the quickest goal in MLS history, just seven seconds in, and it was game over from there. BWP scored three minutes later, then it was Grella again, and then Lawrence, all in the first half. This was the penultimate game of the regular season, meaning Metro needed a win to get their second Shield... The following week, they did just that. Thanks, Philly!
