Gignac does Henrying because "New York is Red"
December 15, 2020
If you don't have a current favorite non-Metro French player, let us present Andre-Pierre Gignac. The long-time international striker scored in Tigres UNAL's 4:0 trashing of NYCFC, but that's not the main reason we are extending our love. (After all, for Metro, 4:0 trashings (or worse) of the blue poseurs are par the course.)
After scoring the goal, Gignac struck the famous Henrying pose at the goalpost. His reason? Thierry Henry, who is coaching Montreal, was was coaching Montreal. "Since Thierry Henry was eliminated a little bit earlier, I was a bit disappointed for him so I thought I was going to the celebrate on the post like he celebrated, because he is from the New York Red Bulls and their rivals are NYCFC. It's the derby," Gignac said in Spanish. He then added in English,
"New York is red."
