Despite the return of Clint Mathis to the field, the MetroStars lost their third straight league game -- and sixth straight overall -- to the Dallas Burn, 3:1. Playing in the puke-white jerseys special for NASL Reunion Night, the Metros scored first but once again failed to hold the lead, allowing three late goals.

The first half was evenly played. The Metros' best chance came on a Rodrigo Faria bicycle kick off a Mathis free kick, that unfortunately sailed right at Matt Jordan. But just three minutes into the second half, Ross Paule headed in his first non-PK goal as a Metro, finishing a nice play started by Brad Davis.

Mathis, who had a number of nice runs during his time on the field, was taken out in the 66th minute, and that's when trouble started. Immediately after he left the field, Ronald Cerritos, who just entered the game, tied it with a blast off a corner kick that deflected off another Dallas player. Nine minutes later, Antonio Martinez gave the Burn the lead for good, beating the Metro defense on the left wing. Martinez then added a second in the 86th, leaving Paule in the dust to set the final score.

Nelson Akwari made his Metro debut as a late substitute. Another horrible home game in what is turning out to be a horrible season.

Lineup: Howard, Chronopoulos, Petke, Jolley, Ziadie, Moore, Paule, Davis, Williams, Faria, Mathis. Subs: Lisi, Diallo, Akwari.
