January 13, 2023 (Official Press Release)
The New York Red Bulls signed Scottish winger Lewis Morgan to a new MLS contract, the club announced today. Morgan has signed a new three-year MLS contract through 2025 with an option for an additional year in 2026.
"We are extremely happy to be able to sign Lewis [Morgan] to a new contract," Head of Sport Jochen Schneider said. "He had a tremendous first season with us, where he was a main contributor for the club, and we are excited to keep him at the club."
Morgan, 25, is coming off his first season with the Red Bulls, where he scored 14 MLS regular season goals, which led the club and ranked third among MLS midfielders' last season. Across all competitions, Morgan recorded 18 goals and four assists in 36 appearances. He became the first Red Bulls player to score double-digit goals in a single season since Daniel Royer in 2019. Morgan converted six penalty kicks last season, which is tied for the most in a single season in franchise history with Amado Guevara (2004) and Bradley Wright-Phillips (2014, 2015).
"Lewis [Morgan] was a very important player for our club last season," said Head Coach Gerhard Struber. "He is a great player and person, who we are very excited to have with us and help us accomplish our goals for this season."
Prior to New York, Morgan spent two seasons with Inter Miami CF, where he tallied seven goals and 12 assists in 57 appearances and was named Team MVP in their inaugural season in 2020. The Paisley, Scotland native also spent time at Celtic FC, Sunderland AFC, and Saint Mirren FC.
