New York Red Bulls II defeated New York City FC II 2-0 on Sunday, May 14 at MSU Soccer Park. The clubs met for the first time in their history, marking the first-ever New York Derby in MLS NEXT Pro.
Red Bulls II opened the scoring in the 48th minute, as forward Elias Manoel converted a penalty kick after defender Juan Gutierrez was taken down in the box.
The home side doubled their advantage two minutes later as midfielder Ricardo Gorday sent a cross in from the left wing that went off Manoel and found forward Frank Ssebuufu, who sent it into the back of the net.
Manoel, who made his Red Bulls II debut in the match, scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal. He also recorded his first assist on Ssebuufu's goal.
The goal for Ssebuufu marked the first in his Red Bulls II career.
New York recorded its fourth clean sheet over its first eight matches. Goalkeeper Alan Rutkowski recorded his first professional clean sheet in the match and totaled two saves.
