Roster slot filled with Mohammed Sofo promotion

The New York Red Bulls have signed New York Red Bulls II midfielder Mohammed Sofo to an MLS contract, the club announced today. Sofo signs a two-and-a-half-year MLS contract through 2026 with an option for 2027 and 2028.
"Mohammed [Sofo] has progressed very well with New York Red Bulls II over the last year," said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. "He has worked extremely hard for this opportunity, and we are very excited to add him to our roster."
Sofo, 19, has been with New York Red Bulls II since he was acquired on loan from Guidars FC on June 2, 2023. Sofo has made 27 MLS NEXT Pro appearances, where he has recorded six goals and six assists. This season, the midfielder has made 14 appearances and has scored four goals as well as tally six assists. His six assists this season lead the club and ranks tied for seventh in MLS NEXT Pro.
"Mohammed has been in training with us the whole season and I'm looking forward to continue to work with him" said Head Coach Sandro Schwarz. "He possesses qualities that we look for in our players and we are happy to have him with us."
Sofo made his MLS debut this season on June 8 against New England Revolution coming on as a substitute. He is a product of Guidars FC and the JMG Football Academy in Mali.
