Metro purge begins as five are waived
November 5, 2002 (Official Press Release)
The MetroStars placed forward Martin Klinger, forward/midfielder Byron Alvarez, and defenders Leo Krupnik, Sam Forko and Ted Chronopoulos on waivers today.
The five players will join a list of other waived players throughout the league that will be available in a special waiver draft tomorrow afternoon on a conference call with general managers and coaches. If a player is not claimed in that draft, MLS will decide whether to keep the player in the league pool or to release him, making him a free agent.
The MetroStars hold the second pick of the waiver draft tomorrow.
Sam Forko (9 Games, 356 minutes) and Byron Alvarez (8 Games, 119 minutes) both saw limited action this past season in league play. Leo Krupnik, who signed as a Discovery Player on August 15, 2002, and Martin Klinger, who was hurt and unavailable most of the year, did not see any action in league play.
Ted Chronopoulos played in 18 games (16 starts) with the MetroStars, since joining the club via a six-man trade with the New England Revolution on Friday, May 24. He totaled four assists with the team.
