Ten Best: Metro blowouts

With the offseason boredom ready to trickle through, let's look at some of the good times in Metro history (believe it or not, there were some!) While the current Ten Best games list is entirely filled with comebacks, let's look at the top ten blowouts that Metro inflicted on their opponents throughout the past 11 years. We will keep the list restrained to regular season and playoff matches, as few saw the two Open Cup blowouts, a 4:0 drubbing of Tampa Bay in 1998 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and a 4:0 shellacking in 2003 over minor-league Mid-Michigan Bucks.
10) May 16, 1996: MetroStars 3, Colorado 0
After starting the season with three straight losses and then squeezing out two shootout wins, the first regulation win in Metro history saw an unexpected dominating performance over an overmatched Colorado squad. Giovanni Savarese scored all three for Metro's first hat-trick.
9) May 5, 2000: MetroStars 4, Chicago 1
A week after a terrific comeback against Tampa Bay, Metro continued their dominating run through the bulk of the 2000 season with this easy victory over Chicago. Steve Jolley and Clint Mathis had their first Metro goals, with the other two coming from Mark Chung and Adolfo Valencia.
8) September 26, 2001: MetroStars 4, Los Angeles 1
Coming off a tie in their playoff opener, the MetroStars score four goals in an 11-minute span, starting in the 72nd minute, to beat the Galaxy. Rodrigo Faria gets two, and Chung and Valencia also figure in the scoring. The Metros take a series lead which would vanish three days later.
7) July 7, 2001: Miami 0, MetroStars 3
Metro put on a clinic at MLS-leading Miami, with the first half highlighted by Tim Howard's spectacular save on the Fusion's Diego Serna. Petter Villegas opens the scoring in the second half and Valencia scores two of his five league goals that season.
6) May 2, 2001: MetroStars 4, Kansas City 1
Clint Mathis scores with his left, his right, and his head, the first of the three on a bending free kick, as Metro come back from an early deficit to destroy Kansas City. Valencia finishes out the scoring.
